Minor Rubber has its origins in The Alling Rubber Company, which sold rubber “factory and mill supplies” in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Charles W. Humphreys, who worked for Alling Rubber, purchased the Newark, NJ location in the early 1900s when Alling withdrew from the market. Minor Rubber opened in 1914.
From its founding, Minor Rubber established a reputation for innovative, high quality rubber products and embraced changing technologies and advancements in rubber materials. Humphreys began by attaching couplings to hose and selling finished hoses to fire departments, mills and other businesses. Our product line expanded into custom rubber mats and matting, gaskets, washers. Minor became the major supplier of fire hose in the area.
As technology advanced, Minor continued its expansion into manufacturing new products and entering new markets. We began developing products to meet the need for specific markets – from defense during World War II, to the emerging aerospace and electronics industries in the 1950s and 1960s. Utilizing more efficient manufacturing technologies and advanced rubber compounds, we have remained on the leading edge of the market, and have maintained the reputation established by Charles Humphreys for providing high quality, high performing products. Our customers know that we will meet or exceed their expectations – every time.
Today, we serve a wide range of industries, including defense, aerospace, electronics, transportation, health care, food processing, construction, and many others. We are proud to have been involved in the space program, and supplied products for all the U.S. space missions. Today, we provide specialty products for missile fuel cells. Our products are found in many innovative products, as well as “regular” products such as refrigerators.
Over the years, Minor Rubber has moved several times to larger facilities as our business has grown. From our roots in New Jersey, we now have production facilities in New Jersey, Georgia, and New Hampshire. Our current product line includes standard and custom molded, extruded, and latex dip molded rubber products.
Minor Rubber was founded by one individual, Charles W. Humphreys, but grew as a family business, and has remained a family-owned and operated business to this day. We would be remiss, however, not to mention that Minor Rubber would not have succeeded as it has without the help and dedication of its employees over the years. Many of these people have literally spent their entire working lives at Minor Rubber, some having 40 to 50+ years of service and exemplify the commitment to quality and innovation that makes Minor Rubber successful.
